A Focus on What's Important

As we start heading our separate ways for this holiday season, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you on the year that has been, and the year yet to be.

2005 has been a monumental year for Supplemental Health Care. We’ve opened new offices. We’ve implemented new systems and processes. We’ve improved our focus and service delivery. We have grown.

All are achievements to be proud of - yet, all pale by comparison to what we’ve really accomplished.

Too often lost in the hustle and bustle of every day, is the fact that we get up each morning and make a difference in people’s lives. Each week, we put thousands of nurses, therapists and other healthcare professionals to work across the country. We find them the jobs they want and help them earn a living. We help them pay their bills, make their mortgage, and feed their families. And at this time of the year, we help them put toys under the tree and buy presents for their loved ones.

Nor does it stop there. Though we rarely have the opportunity to know them, our talent touches the lives of tens of thousands of people each year - patients who trust their health to the professionals we put to work. There are men, women and children throughout the nation who will include our nurses and therapists in their prayers as they sit down for their holiday meal.

In Frank Capra’s classic movie, It’s A Wonderful Life, George Bailey learns how different life would be had he never been born. We should learn a lesson from George and recognize how many people each of us touch, both directly and indirectly, each day - and the impact we have on their lives.

So enjoy this holiday season. Celebrate with family, friends and loved ones - or simply enjoy a few days of peace and quiet. But most of all use this time to reflect on the difference you’ve made in 2005, and recharge your batteries for a busy 2006.

After all, we still have a lot of lives to change out there.
