Your Partner in Patient Care

You have a problem. You wouldn’t be reading this if you didn’t.

If you are a typical health care facility, you probably think you have a staff problem. You need a nurse or a therapist for a shift, a week, maybe even a 13-week contract.

We can help you with that.

But, and we say this with respect, you are probably wrong. You might have a staff shortage that drove you here, but that’s probably just a symptom. Based on our experience, what you really have is a workforce optimization problem.

A Complex Problem

The first question you need to ask yourself is…Why do health care staffing problems persist?

Well, to start, staffing problems are complicated, with multiple dimensions. Just consider:
  • Staff mix (full-time, part-time, agency, etc.)
  • Shift mix (4 versus 6 versus 8 versus 12 versus ?)
  • Skill mix (RN,LPN, CNA, PT, OT, SLP, PTA/COTA)
  • Acuity, Intensity, RUG Mix
  • Staff turnover
  • Training & qualifications, employee preferences, etc.
  • Budget cuts
Adding to that, the problems are very dynamic – the balance between acuity/intensity and census is always changing as well as budget situations
  • One extreme: High acuity/intensity, high census, high vacancy, high agency usage
  • Other extreme: Low acuity/intensity, low census, over staffing, low agency usage
  • And every possible combination in-between
Most people only focus on one or two issues at a time, frequently trying to solve these problems with nothing more than a pen and a clipboard!

And finally, solutions deteriorate due to changes in people, focus and priorities.

Workforce Solutions

Trying to solve these problems individually doesn’t work. Point solutions might address one area and provide some short-term relief, but the improvement is temporary and can actually magnify problems in other areas.

Unless you address all of your workforce issues through an integrated, holistic workforce solution that leverages people, process and technology, you will not achieve long-term answers to your problems.

The good news is we can help you do that too.

The Bottom Line

Yes, we can, and will help you solve your staff shortages by providing qualified health care professionals to meet your immediate staff needs. And that will help. But we’d rather help you solve your problems through workforce optimization.

Though typically owned by Human Resources, we believe that workforce optimization is fundamentally a logistics issue. We apply the same concepts, principles and analytical tools used to solve supply and demand chain challenges for companies worldwide.

Through our three-step process we work with your facility to Analyze your workforce demand, Optimize your workforce deployment strategy, then help you Execute your workforce program; driving down your personnel costs, improving your staff coverage and ensuring that your patients receive the quality care they deserve every day.
